Classtools http://classtools.net/samples/full_list.php
Description:
This site allows you to create flash based games but it also has templates for thinking diagrams such as Fishbone or Venn. The finished games can then be hosted on your own website. The interfaces for each activity are basic & easy to use. There’s a way for you to enter your text based information, click save and embed into blog or web page.
Uses:
· Lesson reinforcement
· Content delivery
Examples:
· Staff Meeting Activity,
· http://classtools.net/widgets/quiz_4/9EKkN.htm
· more samples are provided at the web site
Notes:
The web site is a little “glitchy”. For example, the first two times I clicked on the link to take me to the jigsaw activity, I got a blank page or page not found message. On the third try, the interface came up. After creating my first interactivity, I tried to use the save as html feature & the file that it gave me, would not open. I used the embed into blog or web page feature to get a URL & that worked. One drawback would be that it doesn’t allow for font changes…so no Hawaiian fonts. I also created a sample using the arcade game interface. There are 5 game that the user can choose to play. One of the games, Cannon Ball, was not functioning. I think this is a good tool to share with our A`o Kumu teachers & might be a good resource to point out to clients that want to be able to create their own interactions but, I don’t think I would recommend it to use to create products for clients.
Glogster http://edu.glogster.com/
Description:Glogster allows you to create interactive posters using text & images. You can add pictures, videos, and web links to your poster. The eduglogster function allows you to create accounts for up to 200 students. They can then access your glogs & create their own in a safe, classroom like environment that is not open to the public. The open use version of glogster allows you to publish your glogs and send links or embed them into other web pages, blogs, etc. It has an easy, intuitive interface and does not require much training if any at all. They also plan on adding a file sharing function in the near future.
Uses:
This tool seems like it will be well received by students, especially when they are encouraged to use it to be creative with their assignments. Some possibilities include:
· Showcase student work
· Student generated collages
· Presentations
· Self expression
· Public awareness posters
Examples:
http://environmentalheroes.pbworks.com/Audubon2
http://kela1675.glogster.com/glog-Leadership/
Other Notes:
You can go to glogster & try out the creation functions without signing up for an account, however, in order to save or publish your poster you need an account. If you plan to use both Glogster & EduGlogster you will need two separate accounts.
